Private practice or residency?

I'm currently a junior in an east coast dental school and am indecisive as to if I should go look into becoming an associate in a private practice or spend a year in a general practice residency. Would appreciate your feedback.

Hi- You have to figure out if you're interested in hospital based dentistry. Would you enjoy doing rounds in the OR and learning about anesthesiology? Would you like being on call for all of the head and neck injuries etc? These are all very important questions to ask yourself. I personally believe that doing a GPR is invaluable. You're able to become more of an independent clinician and take the liability off of yourself for an extra year. You can possibly get your certificate in IV/oral conscious sedation and have the opportunity to do dentistry in the OR. Very cool stuff if you ask me. Then again, you're only making b/w $40-50K compared to probably double that if you are working in the real world....so much to think about- Either way, I don't think you can go wrong...it just depends on what you'd like to get out of a residency....
